GONE

It came from nowhere
Didn't even feel the impact
I just heard mommy scream
Then it all went dark
I rubbed my heavy head and opened my eyes
Everything looked strange
The white sheets
The metal beds
The smell of antiseptic
The tasteless curtains
The beeping of machines
Tubes sticking out of my arms
The tired nurse dozing off at the door
The flies feasting on the dried blood on my sheets
I had to wake up
I had to find mommy.
I lifted my heavy head
Realizing it was wrapped in bandages
I sat up and dragged my foot over the bed
But it didn't move.
No.
Nooooooo
Where was my leg
I touched the empty space at the bottom of the bed
WHERE WAS MY LEG
The tired nurse came and told me to come down
Calm down?? CALM DOWN???
WHERE'S MY FREAKING LEG??
calm down she says,
Sticks a needle up my arm
Then it all comes flooding back
That night
Mommy told daddy not to drink
Then the blinding lights
